Steps

  1. In DM DESK, open Channels. Website chat must be turned on.
  2. Under Website chat, find Connect WordPress and click Download plugin. You get a zip file already set up for your business.
  3. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins, click Add Plugin, then Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the zip file and click Install Now.
  5. If you get a folder named dm-desk-website-chat instead of a zip file (Safari on a Mac can unzip downloads), right click the folder, choose Compress, and upload the .zip that makes.
  6. Click Activate Plugin. There is nothing to set up.
  7. Open your site and check that the chat button shows. Once you're live, ask it a question.
  8. To take the chat off your site, deactivate the plugin.

Good to know

  • Before you go live, your agent doesn't answer on your site or Instagram yet. Until then, use the typed test on Test your agent.
  • Safari on a Mac can unzip a download for you. If you have a folder named dm-desk-website-chat instead of a zip file, right click it, choose Compress, and upload the .zip that makes.
  • On WordPress.com, plugins need a paid plan. The Free plan can't install plugins.
  • The plugin isn't in the WordPress plugin directory. Download it from Channels.
  • Prefer no plugin? Paste the code yourself instead, from the same Website chat card.

Here's how to put your website chat on a WordPress site, with the DM DESK plugin.

In DM DESK, open Channels.

With Website chat turned on, find Connect WordPress.

Download plugin gives you a zip file that's already set up for your business. There's nothing to edit.

Now open your WordPress dashboard.

Go to Plugins.

Click Add Plugin.

Then Upload Plugin, at the top.

Choose the zip file you just downloaded.

Click Install Now.

Then Activate Plugin. The plugin has no settings to fill in.

Open your site. The chat button now shows on every page.

Your chat opens by telling the visitor it's your AI assistant.

Ask a question, the way a customer would.

Once you're live, your agent answers from the hours and answers you set in DM DESK.

To take the chat off your site, deactivate the plugin in WordPress.
